One of the first steps in starting a research paper is to choose a topic. The Newsbank database has a list of current (this week) topics for you to choose from. To access Newsbank, click the red Browse Databases button found on the library’s home page. Scroll down the list to Las Vegas/Nevada News and click on the link. Log in with your Canvas login and password. In the banner at the top of the page click "Hot Topics." Under "Current Events" you’ll see current topics listed under these subject areas:

  • Current events
    • CRIME AND LAW:Police and Community Relations / George Floyd Killing Sparks both Protests and Rioting
    • ECONOMICS: Worldwide-Economic Activity Slowly Starts Again
    • GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS: Worldwide-Lockdowns being Eased

Not only does Newsbank have a great list, but each topic is summarized and you can use the questions presented to think about how you’re going to write or speak about the topic. Newsbank even offers search terms to get you started on conducting your own search in this or another CSN database you might choose!
