Did you know CSN Libraries has a TikTok? Unless you’ve been living under a rock, TikTok is a social media platform featuring short video content that exploded during quarantine. What makes TikTok unique from other platforms is its ability to entertain, inform, educate, and inspire all in one short video! Since TikTok’s skyrocketing popularity, other social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook have also followed suit cultivating their own short video capabilities with reels.

During quarantine, our marketing team was looking for ways to bring patrons back into the library ‘virtually’ due to the fact our campus libraries were closed. So naturally creating short video content about the library during our closure was the perfect way to do it. Fast forward to now and there’s still plenty of opportunity to market the library in ways we never have before.
We’ve received positive feedback from students and even from online students who though prefer the online experience, the idea of an on-campus experience via short video is appealing to them as well. In fact, TikTok is very popular in the higher education space with many colleges and universities across the country now with their own TikTok accounts marketing themselves not only to current students and broad audiences, but to potential and future students as well.

From food recipes to life hacks, to cute animals and up-to-date news, to inspirational moments and real tear-jerking ones, the wide array of content that’s shared on the app is quite remarkable and has changed the way people see and interact with social media. There’s something for everyone on TikTok and that is perhaps the best feature of all. Follow us @csnlibraries.
