How long have you been working as a librarian at the CSN Henderson campus?

I actually had my first shift at the Henderson Campus Library 10 years ago when I started working at CSN Libraries in 2012. I even helped the library create a blog that was specific just to Henderson’s community. Though we phased out the blog years ago, I’ve enjoyed seeing how the campus has grown and changed since then. I returned to having shifts at Henderson in 2019 and 2020 (even during the pandemic) and saw the construction of the campus’ new Health Sciences Building, which our library moved into in Fall of 2021. It was great to be a part of that process and to now be a permanent Henderson librarian since our grand opening!

What are you looking forward to most as the Lead Librarian at Henderson?

A lead librarian handles a lot of the operations and logistics of running a campus library (from staff schedules to goal setting). While I look forward to playing a major role in each of these, I am most looking forward to the teamwork involved in bringing it all to fruition. None of this work can be done alone, and we have an amazing team. I’m excited to try new things with our space and our staff. I hope to collaborate as much as possible and build an innovative future together.

Since becoming a librarian at CSN, what would you say has been your biggest accomplishment?

I’m so lucky to work at an institution that supports professional development and career growth. I used to say my greatest accomplishment was presenting at ALA (the American Library Association annual conference) in 2017 because that is a national event! But then I was asked if I would be interested in writing a book based on my presentation. Fast forward to May of 2022 when my co-written book, Practical Marketing for the Academic Library was just released!

What does a Lead Librarian do for fun?

I bet you think I’m going to say “reading!” My favorite hobby is writing, but since I have a toddler and a baby at home, I don’t have a lot of free time! My favorite things to do for fun right now are grabbing coffee before work and planning themed photoshoots for my two boys (I am definitely looking forward to Halloween!).

What should students know when they come to the Henderson campus library?

1. Where we’re located! The Health Sciences Building is right next door to the Student Union. Our library is actually located in the back on the first floor, so if you go in the main entrance of the building you’ll have to take the elevator downstairs!

2. What we offer! The library has group study rooms, computers, anatomy models, and more! We also have a quiet study area if you need a place without extra sound.

3. The social stairs are awesome! I love the space and the views, but be sure to go through the archway and check out the stairs from time to time because we often put up unique displays, holiday crafts, and other activities there.

4. You can ask for help! Our staff at the desk is so friendly and always want to make sure you get what you need.
