Interim Director's Welcome Back

Welcome or welcome back to all our students, staff, and faculty here and ready for the start of the 2023-2024 academic year! The Fall semester is getting underway and we’re all very excited at CSN Libraries. I wanted to give a little overview about what we’ve been up to and introduce myself if you haven’t met me yet.

My name is Stephanie Villamor, and I’m currently serving as Interim Director of CSN Libraries. It was an honor to be selected for this position back in May of 2023, coming from my previous role as Lead Librarian of the CSN Henderson campus library and eLearning Librarian (I love to help students online!). Some fun facts about me:

  • I’ve co-written a book about academic library marketing.
  • My favorite things to do outside of work are spend time with my two boys, write stories for young people, take family photos, and watch Disney or Marvel movies.
  • I’m under 5 feet tall!

In my new role as interim director, I get to visit all three campuses more often, which is a great opportunity to see students and staff from across the CSN community. I also get to oversee a lot of fun projects that will make our libraries even better for you.

For example, if you haven’t stopped by the Charleston campus library yet, we have brand new furniture in the back of the library by our large glass windows. Please feel free to sit, relax, study, and enjoy!

At the Henderson campus library, you might notice shiny new signs directing you to the Library Service Desk, Quiet Study Room, and Social Stairs.

This summer we’ve hired a new library administrative assistant and had a new Lead Librarian come to the North Las Vegas Campus Library. eLearning Librarian Emily Pattni was promoted to this position in July!

We also had a lot going on before the summer even started. Last year (between July 2022 and May 2023) we had over 190,665 people use our libraries across all three campuses. A total of 3,135 signed up for library cards for the first time, an increase of 30% compared to the year before. We also had 96 instruction sessions where our librarians taught dozens of students all about library research and citation.

Faculty members interested in scheduling in-person instruction for the coming semester can reach out to the Lead Librarian on each campus or book instruction directly online. Students who need help with research assignments can get help from any librarian in person or online as well!

Everyone at CSN Libraries is here to help. We can’t wait to see you in the libraries and we look forward to another great year!
