DJ Sunga recently joined the library as our Administrative Assistant on August 1st. She has kindly agreed to answer a few questions so we can all get to know her. Welcome to the team, DJ!

Where are you originally from?

I was born in Canada, after my parents immigrated there from the Philippines. We moved to Las Vegas not too long after that, so I’ve lived here for most of my life.

Why did you choose to work at CSN?

I’ve always enjoyed working in places that support our Las Vegas Community. I previously worked at both Clark County Parks and Recreation and Clark County School District. I was also a student at CSN where I met wonderful people, one of which encouraged me to work at CSN. I started working in CSN’s Health Programs Advising department at the beginning of 2022. I’m thankful that I can continue to use what I’ve learned to help the students and staff at the CSN Libraries.

What made you want to work for the library?

When I was younger, I spent most of my weekends at the public library, where I even joined a teen anime club. It was so much fun, and the experience helped shape who I am now. Since then, the library has held a special place in my heart. When the opportunity to work at the CSN library came up, I was ecstatic because I really felt like it would be a perfect fit for me. Everyone here is amazing, and I feel very lucky to work with such a great team!

What do you like to do for fun?

When I’m not at work, I usually spend time with my family and friends. I enjoy trying new food places, so feel free to send me some recommendations! When it’s not too hot, I like to be outside and hike or play sports, like pickle ball and spike ball. I also enjoy traveling and learning about other cultures. Aside from visiting several states, I’ve been to Australia, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, and Singapore. I’m hoping to visit more countries soon! In my downtime, I love watching anime with my husband or catching up on the latest chapters of whichever manga I’m currently hooked on.

What is your favorite place you have traveled to and why?

It’s hard to pick a favorite since every place has its own unique charm! If I had to pick just one, it would probably be Japan. It’s a beautiful country that offers a variety of foods to try and things to do – making it a destination you’ll want to visit more than once. That being said, a very close second would be the Philippines. There was a lot I learned about spirituality and gratitude, which definitely made it a life-changing experience for me.
