CSN Libraries would like to extend a warm welcome to our new Director, Jeff Bullington! Jeff joins us from California where he served as Director of the Armacost Library at the University of Redlands. He brings years of leadership and advocacy experience to CSN and we look forward to seeing his skills put into practice for our students and community!
Where are you originally from and where have you worked along the way?
I was born in Boulder, Colorado and Nevada has now become the 9th state I have lived in (Colorado, Iowa, Massachusetts, Illinois, Texas, Kansas, Minnesota, California, and now Nevada). I have enjoyed all of them but Colorado is my favorite. I have moved away from Colorado 5 times and moved back 4 times and I could do it again. South Texas (San Antonio) is second favorite so far.
Why did you choose to work at CSN?
I was looking for a new challenge that would broaden my experiences in librarianship and higher education more broadly. I am very attracted to the broader educational mission of CSN across certificates, credentials, Associate's and Bachelor's Degrees. The demographics of CSN students, the multi-campus and multi-library environment, and that CSN and Las Vegas are growing. Particularly more so now, people will be constantly upskilling, continually learning and acquiring new skills and experiences. Being a part of how CSN supports people in this is going to be rewarding work.
What do you like to do for fun?
I love live music and theater and am looking forward to exploring those things here in Las Vegas. For music, the broad genre of alternative (and very old-school) country, red dirt, Americana, etc. is my favorite genre. For theater I like many different genres but definitely musical theater. I am super excited for later this month when the filmed version of the Broadway show Hadestown will be screening nationwide for a week. I have seen the stage production 6 times now (4 on Broadway and 2 on National Tour). I already have my ticket for a showing on 7/23. For other fun things, I am looking to explore the natural environment of the region doing some hiking, biking, driving around out on the highways, etc.
What are you most looking forward to experiencing here in Las Vegas?
Getting to know the community and people - and then seeing whatever the universe decides to present to me to experience here.
What do you feel is your biggest personal or professional accomplishment?
I am a First-Generation Student who had no idea at all what I was going to do. I just knew that college was the choice for me and then deciding to keep in it for work as well has been really rewarding. And finding librarianship as a profession has been amazing.
