The beginning of this month, February 27-March 3, marked Nevada Reading Week, where students across the state celebrated their love of reading! As a librarian, I can't help but appreciate any time people acknowledge the value of reading in the lives of kids, students, and society as a whole. But the best part about Nevada Reading Week, for me, is the opportunity to give back, by volunteering to read to kids at local schools. On the morning of January 21, 2017, I arrived an hour and a half early in Downtown Las Vegas for the Women’s March on Washington’s Sister march in Downtown Las Vegas. I volunteered to photograph the Nevada march for the Women’s March Archive Project and planned to capture the moment from beginning to end. The sun was out in full force inviting the marchers to shed their jackets and show their elaborate costumes, and prepare for the half a mile march to the courthouse. Can you tell a horror story in 10 words? These winners could! In celebration of Halloween, CSN Libraries hosted a 10-word (or fewer) horror story contest! Contest Guidelines: A Ten-Word Story should provide a movement of conflict, action, and resolution that gives the sense of a complete story transpiring in a moment’s reading. This September, Las Vegas celebrates diversity with its PRIDE Night Parade and Festival of events for the LGBT community. CSN libraries is joining the celebration with a Pride table outside the West Charleston campus library (Building I lobby) on September 17 from 11am-1pm. Join us for rainbow cupcakes, free library giveaway items, and information about our LGBT literature collections. The CSN Cheyenne and Henderson campus libraries will have LGBT literature on display as well.
