Pictures released the live action film Barbie based on one of the most prolific dolls in American history and Universal Pictures released Oppenheimer a sprawling film about the leader of the Manhattan Project, J. Robert Oppenheimer known as the ‘father’ of the atomic bomb. On Monday, June 5 th, CSN Librarians participated in the Summer Academy Welcome event held on all three campuses. The Summer Academy is a select cohort of newly graduated students who are taking one class and participate in a variety of activities to introduce them to college life. The library, along with other student support services, spoke to almost 200 students about library services and resources. Students were invited to come to the library to get their library card, see our spaces, and meet our staff. Some students even helped test the new study room booking procedure we are developing

CSN Libraries will be closed on Monday, June 19 th to commemorate Juneteenth, the historical end of slavery. This news comes this week from CSN’s Office of the President in response to the State of Nevada officially signing into law that Juneteenth is now a state holiday. Though the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863 declaring the abolition of slavery, it wasn’t until two years later that Union soldiers rode into Texas to communicate this news on June 19, 1865. Today, we celebrate this day to honor and remember the struggle and achievements of so many generations of African Americans

Did you know that you can get books and articles that CSN does not have access to? Through InterLibrary Loan (ILL), you can request books and articles from libraries like UNLV, the Library of Congress or even the National Library of Spain, all free of charge. Requests for physical items like books or DVDs from libraries that are located close to CSN usually only take a few days to a week to arrive. Items from libraries that are farther away can take several weeks to arrive, so make sure to plan accordingly. An article is typically emailed to your CSN email within a couple of business days
